INMARSAT Fleet Broadband service supports voice, data and video connectivity through compact terminals that may be easily installed on vessels of varying types and sizes. Fleet Broadband terminals provide excellent connectivity, independent of the ship’s position, or the sea’s conditions.
Fleet Broadband allows you to be connected to voice and internet services wherever you may be navigating. The service is available worldwide except in extreme polar regions.
Fleet Broadband provides reliable access to data services, including meteorological and ECDIS (Electronic Charts Display Information System) with real-time updating. Its simultaneous voice and data transmission capability allows operational navigation systems to run on line at the same time e-mails are sent and telephone calls are made. All services are managed by the same Fleet Broadband terminal. This means that the captain may concentrate on maneuvering the vessel, while the crew makes calls or send e-mails home.
Fleet Broadband terminals support the following services (Note that the specs apply to the largest terminals and that smaller ones will have more restricted services and also a more restricted geographical coverage):
- IP Access – Access to the internet or to intranets at rates up to 492Kbit/s
- IP Streaming – IP streaming with guaranteed bandwidths of 32, 64, 128 or 256Kbit/s
- Telephony – Provision of telephone calls simultaneously with the use of data services
- SMS – Transmission and reception of text messages up to 160 characters
