Vessels operating in high seas depend on reliable telecommunications services in order to accomplish their work activities.

Radiocomunicação Operacional e GMDSS C.FOSTER supplies the complete on-board telecommunications packages required by ships and platforms, including radio and satellite communications systems used for several applications:

  • External voice and data communications with on-shore facilities, with other vessels, with helicopters and with costal stations
  • Internal vessel communications
  • Safety and human life safeguard systems including GMDSS
  • Radio beacons
  • Satellite internet access
  • Public voice telephony services

How it works

C.FOSTER installs and maintains all the telecommunications system packages used in ships and on platforms, including:Radiocomunicação Operacional e GMDSS

  • VHF/FM-SMM network (Mobile Maritime System) for communicating with other units and ships
  • VHF/AM-SMA network (Mobile Aeronautical System) for communicating with helicopters
  • HF/SSB-SMM network (Mobile Maritime Service) for communicating with support units and costal radio stations
  • UHF/FM-SPM network (Production and Maintenance Service) for vessel internal communication
  • Radio Beacon (NDB) for navigation aid
  • Microwave digital radios for communications between platforms, and between platforms and on-shore stations. Radio links can be supplied in full redundant configuration (1+1)
  • INMARSAT terminals for voice and data services and for emergency communications
  • VSAT terminals with stabilized satellite tracking antennas, for access to voice, data and internet services
  • Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) for the human life safeguard at sea, supplied in accordance with the International Distress and Safety System / IMO-SOLAS recommendations. The GMDSS supports connectivity through alternative telecommunications systems   and works on UPS (uninterruptible power supply) power

C.FOSTER supplies and installs all the telecommunications packages required by ships and platforms of varying sizes, meeting the highest quality standards required for this type of installation.

C.FOSTER relys on a highly skilled and trained technical team, composed of professionals with extensive experience with maritime and offshore customers, most of whom have been trained abroad at our partner equipment and service vendors’  facilities.

Equipment and materials are supplied according to international norms and standards, including recommendations from PETROBRAS, ANATEL, IMO/SOLAS, Unit Classification Society, AIS, SSAS, ABS, DNV, among others.

All materials and accessories are specified and assembled considering the hostile environmental characteristics of the offshore production environment. All installed systems are rigorously tested, with test instruments that are regularly calibrated according to applicable norms.

 Project and installation activities typically include:

  • System conception according to the needs of each customer
  • Engineering design including plants and descriptive drawings
  • Supply and delivery logistics according to the project schedule
  • On-board Installation and commissioning
  • “As built” documentation, including updated plans and drawings
  • Training programs for customer personnel
  • Assisted operation during the first months of operation of a given system
  • Proactive maintenance after the assisted operation period
  • Support for obtaining the required licenses and authorizations from the local telecommunications regulator and from other Government organizations
