Operational teams need to be able to communicate, either by making or by receiving calls, when they are moving inside a vessel. Such teams count on UHF portable radio sets for communications and localization.
Metal structures of large vessels tend to block electromagnetic radiation. For a system to function properly with full coverage, a set of amplifiers and radiating cables need to be installed throughout the vessel.
How it works
Portable UHF Active Repeater & Radio Systems are composed of amplifiers and radiating cables and support communications with portable UHF transceivers located anywhere within a vessel. This infrastructure is required to eliminate signal obstructions in confined areas.
Radiating cables operate typically in the 450 to 470MHz band. It is also possible to install ultra large bandwidth cables that extend coverage up to 2,4GHz enabling support for other future services.
Scope of a Standard Project
C.FOSTER supplies and installs UHF Active Repeater & Radio Systems in ships and platforms of varying sizes, meeting the highest quality standards required for this type of installation.
C.FOSTER relys on a highly skilled and trained technical team, composed of professionals with large experience with maritime and offshore customers, most of whom have been trained abroad at our partner equipment vendor’s facilities.
Equipment and materials are supplied according to international norms and standards, including recommendations from PETROBRAS, ANATEL, IMO/SOLAS, Unit Classification Society, AIS, SSAS, ABS, DNV and others.
All materials and accessories are specified and assembled considering the hostile environmental characteristics of the offshore production environment. All installed systems are rigorously tested, with test instruments that are regularly calibrated according to applicable norms.
Project and installation activities typically include:
- System conception according with the needs of each customer
- System component sizing
- Engineering design including plans and descriptive drawings
- Technical manuals
- Supply and delivery logistics according to the project schedule
- Supply of all materials including:
- RF cables
- UHF radiating cables
- UHF antennas
- UHF active repeater
- On-board Installation including the physical identification of all network components
- As built” documentation, including updated plans and drawings
- Acceptance tests, including:
- Test planning documentation
- Test results and compiling documentation
- Training programs for customer personnel
