INMARSAT BGAN service supports voice, data and video connectivity for the mobile users. No technical skills are required for assembling and operating the access terminals, that are extremely compact and user friendly.

BGAN terminals are lightweight and portable. Some models are even smaller than a standard notebook and weigh less than a kilogram. Registered BGAN terminals can operate anywhere in the world, with coverage restraints in extreme polar regions. Vehicle-mount terminals are also available and use compact antennas which are installed on top of the vehicle.

It is possible to access voice and data services simultaneously using a single BGAN terminal. The services supported by the BGAN platform are the following (but note that the cheaper terminals do not support all services):

• IP Access – internet access at rates up to 492Kbit/s
• IP Streaming – IP streaming with guaranteed bandwidths of 32, 64, 128 or 256Kbit/s. This service is often used by news reporters for the transmission of live compressed video
• Telephony – Provision of telephone calls simultaneously with the use of data services
• SMS – Transmission and reception of text messages up to 160 characters
